EFT vs Arc Raiders

Embark Studios' Arc Raiders launched in late 2025 and quickly became the first credible direct competitor to Escape from Tarkov's extraction-shooter throne. Sci-fi setting, Unreal Engine 5, Embark's post-DICE polish — a totally different feel wrapping the same core loop. Here's the honest 2026 breakdown of which game suits which player.

HomeEFT vs Arc Raiders

Same Genre, Very Different Feel

Both games ask you to enter a map, fight AI and other players, loot, and extract. That's where similarity ends. Tarkov is grounded, realistic, punishing, Russian-post-apocalyptic in flavour. Arc Raiders is sci-fi, retro-futurist, full of rogue machines instead of human militias, with a more stylised visual identity and a faster time-to-kill at close range.

Arc Raiders' combat is dramatically more arcade than Tarkov. Recoil is lighter. Ballistics are simpler. Gear is less granular — no per-limb armour, no caliber-specific penetration tables. A TTK that's almost exactly half Tarkov's matters more than any plot difference; it changes how you approach corners, cover, and commitment.

Pick EFT If…

  • You want the most punishing extraction experience available
  • You enjoy deep weapon modding and per-caliber ballistics
  • You like 25–45 minute raids with full information asymmetry
  • You want the biggest content library the genre has — ten maps, dozens of quests, hideout progression

Pick Arc Raiders If…

  • You want a lower stakes entry into the extraction genre
  • You prefer sci-fi themes over military realism
  • You find Tarkov's learning curve prohibitive
  • You want UE5 visuals and a shorter session length

Realistically, the best answer in 2026 is both. They scratch different itches. Tarkov for when you want maximum tension; Arc Raiders for when you want to actually log off after a single raid. See our full extraction shooter rankings for the wider landscape.

If You're Committing to EFT in 2026

Tarkov is the longer, harder path. Quality awareness tools — radar, ESP, loot filter — shortcut the brutal learning-phase deaths that send most Arc Raiders refugees back to easier games.
